What Is The Purpose Of The Spring Used In Oil Seals?

The spring is used to provide load around the sealing circumference, and keep the sealing lip very tight against the shaft surface. Some Garlock designs utilize a finger spring design, which provides an independent finger action only in areas where needed as opposed to a garter spring that applies pressure everywhere around the shaft. In addition to this, our finger springs are either molded-in or mechanically connected to the seal so the spring cannot fall off or get pulled into the equipment.
