Research project d:v:lop

With the title "Digital and virtual learning cultures in organizations of the production sector" Garlock started in March 2017 as cooperation partner a research project together with the Cybernetics Lab IMA & IfU - RWTH Aachen University.

The heart of the d:v:lop project were the media workshops, the "DigiQLabs". In these workshops, the project introduced production staff to digital and virtual technologies and learning opportunities. The aim of the project was to strengthen the media competence of production workers and to prepare them for a changing learning and working culture (see http://dvlop.info/aktuelles). The Garlock media workshop, located in the middle of the Garlock production hall, was ideally suited for the development of the training concept and the hands-on workshops for the production employees.

The project included the purely analogue station, the "Peer Learning Space", for knowledge management and direct exchange with colleagues. It also included stations on "Online Knowledge Management", "Augmented Reality Instruction & Collaboration" and "Virtual Reality Environments" to cover the entire spectrum of virtual learning possibilities.

In the Garlock workshop, development engineer Andreas Gierden mainly supported the topics "Augmented Reality Instruction & Collaboration" and "Virtual Reality Environments". Garlock production employees were instructed in virtual training sessions on machines and in production processes. For this purpose, special virtual environments were created in which the employees were "immersed" in a special program using VR glasses.

The d:v:lop project was limited in time from 01.03.2017 to 28.02.2020. Garlock employees benefited from the testing of the different learning situations and increased their media competence. We are pleased to have been a competent partner in advancing research in digital and virtual learning cultures.
