Which Rubber Material Should I Select for My Oil Seal?

One of the factors that drive elastomer selection is the application temperature. Garlock’s Mill-right N (NBR) is rated for use up to 200 degrees F continuous / 250 degrees F spikes, Mill-right ES (HNBR) is rated for use up to 300 degrees F continuous/350 degrees F spikes, and Mill-right V (FKM) is rated for use up to 400 degrees F continuous / 450 degrees F spikes. Aside from temperature considerations, some applications contain chemical media that might require a more compatible material such as Mill-right V (FKM) or even PTFE.
